Unfortunately we have decided to temporarily remove all data from the W.I.L.D online database. The
reason is that hack attempts have been made in recent weeks and thousands of pages have been
visited by 1 or a group of people. (data trawling)
From the year 2003 we have collected pedigree data and health results. It soon became clear that
taking over names 1 on 1 from the studbooks, caused problems. To make all data more manageable
the names needed to be simplified. This meant a huge task for us, because we also had to check and
adjust all the ca. 60.000 dogs originating from the Arthur Muller database who gave us this tip in the
first place. Our data-set is therefore unique and has copyright!
Because we achieved better management and data control, we were able to deliver the program and
our complete database to the Universities of Bern & Minnesota who both still receive quarterly
updates.
The database was also the base for 2 reports, 1 published by PHD Anna Letko and 1 by PHD Pieter
Oliehoek as well as 2 calculations of Mean Kinship.
We have always felt our data should be easy available to breeders and owners as tool for responsible
breeding. Therefore we have never used a log-in or restriction on how many searches a person is
allowed to make. We regret that this is now being abused.
Purpose of this rather long epistle is not to find out who is trawling our data but to convince the
perpetrator(s) to stop. Please pass on this message!
We hope to be back online end of next week . In case this data trawling recontinues we will be forced
to take other measures, which will cost much more time.
